Carpet and rug cleaning for Singapore homes

Carpets and rugs make a room feel warmer and quieter, but they hold on to far more than they show. Dust, hair, crumbs, sand from shoes and spills work their way down into the pile, and in Singapore’s humidity a damp or rarely cleaned rug can start to smell musty. Our carpet and rug cleaning service cleans the carpets and rugs in your home, so you do not have to roll them up and take them anywhere.

This page covers when a carpet or rug clean is worth booking, how pricing works, what to tell us beforehand, and how to keep carpets in good condition between cleans.

When to book a carpet or rug clean

  • Walkways look darker than the rest of the carpet, or the pile has flattened along the paths people use most.
  • There are spills or stains you have not been able to lift with a cloth and water.
  • It smells musty, especially after a wet spell or if the rug sits on a cool floor.
  • A baby is starting to crawl, or young children play on the floor every day.
  • You have pets, and hair or accidents have built up.
  • You are moving in or out. Carpets in bedrooms or a study are often part of the handover, and our move-in and move-out cleaning can be booked on the same visit.

Carpet and rug cleaning prices

Carpets and rugs differ widely in size, material and condition, so we quote each job. The quote depends on:

  • the size of each rug, or the floor area of fitted carpet;
  • the material, for example synthetic, wool, cotton or a delicate handmade rug;
  • how soiled it is, and whether there are particular stains or odours to treat.

Send us photos, rough measurements and any care labels, and we will reply with a clear quote before anything is booked. Carpet and rug cleaning can be combined with a regular home clean or a full deep clean, and sofa cleaning or mattress cleaning can be added to the same visit.

What to tell us before the visit

  • The type of carpet or rug and, if you know it, the material. Many rugs have a label on the back with care instructions.
  • Whether it is fitted or loose. Fitted carpet is cleaned where it is laid; loose rugs are cleaned on a hard floor in your home.
  • Stains and what caused them, such as coffee, wine, paint or a pet accident, and roughly how old they are.
  • Anything already tried, because some home products can set stains or leave sticky residue.
  • Valuable or antique rugs. Tell us before booking so we can advise honestly whether a specialist is the better choice.

What carpet and rug cleaning does not cover

We clean carpets and rugs; we do not repair, re-dye, refit or replace them, and we do not carry out pest control. Some marks, particularly old stains, bleach spots and colour loss, are permanent, and we will tell you what to expect before we start.

Getting the room ready

  • Clear toys, shoes and small items off the carpet or rug.
  • Move light furniture such as chairs and side tables off the area if you can.
  • Vacuum beforehand if you have time, so the clean can focus on the pile and the stains.
  • Keep the room ventilated, with windows open or fans on, during and after the clean.
  • Ask us how long to wait before walking on it again or putting furniture back, and keep children and pets away until then.

Carpets, rugs and Singapore’s climate

Most Singapore homes have hard floors, so carpets tend to be loose rugs in the living room or bedrooms, or fitted carpet in a study or a landed home. Both face the same challenge here: humidity. A rug that sits on a cool tiled floor, under a sofa or in a room with little airflow can trap moisture underneath and start to smell musty, and a spill that soaks in may take a long time to dry.

A few habits help. Lift the corners of large rugs now and then to let the floor underneath dry, especially after mopping. Avoid putting rugs back on a damp floor. Run a fan or air-conditioning in rooms that stay humid, and do not lay rugs in bathrooms or near the kitchen sink, where they are splashed every day.

What your helper can do, and what to book in

If you have a live-in helper, she can handle the everyday care: vacuuming carpets and rugs weekly, shaking out small mats, blotting spills straight away, and rotating rugs every few months. Agree with her which products may be used, and ask her to test anything new on a hidden corner first.

A periodic professional clean then deals with what everyday vacuuming cannot reach: the grit and grime deep in the pile, odours and set-in stains. If you are thinking about live-in help for the whole home, see our full-time helpers, or book part-time help for regular cleaning without a live-in arrangement.

Keeping carpets and rugs fresh between cleans

  • Vacuum regularly, at least weekly in busy rooms, going slowly in both directions to lift dust from deep in the pile.
  • Use a doormat and a no-shoes rule to keep grit and sand off carpets in the first place.
  • Blot spills at once with a clean cloth, working from the outside in. Do not rub or soak the carpet.
  • Rotate rugs every few months so sun and footsteps wear them evenly.
  • Keep the air dry. Rugs on cool floors in humid rooms can turn musty. Our guide to reducing humidity at home explains what helps.

For methods you can use yourself, see our guide on how to clean a carpet at home. With any product, test a hidden corner first, ventilate the room, and never mix bleach with ammonia or acidic cleaners, as the combination can release harmful fumes.
